Fibre Optic Tester (GTA, ON)

VistaCare Communications is a leading technology solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Fibre Optic Tester to join our Outside Plant (OSP) Operations in the GTA, ON for full-time, permanent employment.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Testing the fibre service areas
  • Operating a bucket truck
  •  Carrying a ladder to each multiport to test continuity and light levels of individual fibres at different locations
  • Working with the remote tester to confirm continuity
  •  Tent testing using the OTDR or Optical Time Domain Reflectometer

Experience Required: 

The following are considered advantageous but are NOT required:

  • Related labourer experience  
  • Testing for improved performance
  • Experience with EXFO testing products such as OTDR, FOT-930 & MaxTester is preferred
  • Troubleshooting fiber optics, electrical circuitry related to telecom industry
  • Knowledge of assembly and alignment of optical, mechanical and electrical components into sub-assemblies
  • Knowledge of telecommunication OSP
  • Diagnostics, troubleshooting and repairing network issues.
  • Bucket truck operation
  • 28’ extension ladder set-up
Additional Requirements: 
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (preference for airbrakes or willingness to get airbrakes)
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
