Fibre and Copper Splicer (Calgary)

VistaCare Communications is a leading telecommunications and technology provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently looking to hire Fibre Splicers and Copper Splicers for our outside plant (OSP) field operations in Calgary, Alberta for permanent, full-time positions. These positions are involved in all facets of splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing and troubleshooting for our project areas across Canada.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fibre / copper sites and links
- Documenting and reporting on completed telecommunication work
- Maintaining project and telecom safety documentation
- Inspecting routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
- Ensuring all attended sites are clearly labelled
- Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault
- Reviewing engineered plans and blueprints
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, isolation
- Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to: carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment (manhole covers, cable reels)
- Self-disciplined, motivated and organized
Experience Required:
- Fibre or Copper splicing experience (preference will be given to those with experience in both)
- Familiarity with the tools, equipment and techniques of the trade
- Technical training considered an asset
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license (preference given to Class 3 or DZ and above), reasonable driver abstract
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
- Willingness to travel is considered an asset, as travel options may arise for future projects (All travel and accomodations will be paid by VistaCare)
- The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
