Job Summary

VistaCare Communications is a leading technology infrastructure solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking  Fibre Optic Splicing Technicians to join our Ontario operations or permanent, full-time positions. Fiber Optic Technicians are involved in all facets of fibre splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing and troubleshooting.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Aerial / Ground/ Underground Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fibre sites and links
  • Documenting and reporting on work completed
  • Maintaining project and safety documentation
  • Inspecting fiber routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
  • Ensuring all attended sites are clearly labelled
  • Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault
  • Restoring links within 4 hours or less depending on the criticality
Knowledge and Skills: 

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Fibre cable termination with connectors
  • Well versed in fusion splicing machine technique
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, isolation
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to: carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment (manhole covers, cable reels)
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organized

 

Experience Required: 

Experience Required

  • 2+ years Fibre Optic splicing experience (preference given to those with additional experience or FTTx project experience)
  • Technical training considered an asset
  • Previous experience testing for improved experience
  • Experience using FO troubleshooting tools (i.e. OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.)

 

Additional Requirements: 

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license (preference given to Class 3 and above), reasonable driver abstract
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
  • Willingness to travel would be beneficial as travel options may arise for future projects
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
