VC Underground, a subsidiary of VistaCare Communications, is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Hydrovac Operator to join our Outside Plant (OSP) Operations in Vancouver, BC. The Hydrovac Operator is involved in all facets of the successful completion of hydro excavation projects.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Perform debris removal, slot trenching, daylighting and digging
• Set up and inspect grounding and/or bonding procedures for Hydrovac operation
• Operate Hydrovac trucks and equipment in a safe and professional manner
• Ensure all Hydrovac truck equipment and components are in good working condition at all times
• Complete all required paperwork properly on a daily basis
• Ensure proper function by performing pre and post trip inspections and general housekeeping - report any inefficiencies to Supervisor
• Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment
• Follow all policies and procedures set out by VistaCare Communications and manufacturer
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager or crew leader

Knowledge and Skills: 

• Strong manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, isolation
• Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere, must be able to lift and carry 50lbs+
• Self-disciplined, motivated, organized, and a team player
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and repetitive tasks

Experience Required: 

• Experience operating a manual transmission with direct experience on 18 speed vehicles
• Previous experience in the telecommunication industry considered an asset
• Certification in fall protection, first aid construction safety training (CSTS), ground disturbance, confined spaces, h2s, transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) considered an asset

Additional Requirements: 

• Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
• Travel as required
• The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
