The Regional Manager – Atlantic has responsibility for a specified geography of the Maritime Provinces and has accountability at a high level for the successful completion of projects in their region.  Managers and Supervisors assigned to any projects in their region report to the Regional Manager, as well as specified support roles in those regions.  The Regional Manager is also responsible for customer relationships and for business development within his/her region.  This position is based out of our Bedford, Nova Scotia office with regular travel required.

The Regional Manager reports to the Vice President, Outside Plant.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain, nurture and grow working relationships with current customers in their region. Develop healthy relationships with potential customers based in or working in their region;
  • Works on Business Development goals within their geography as per strategic direction of the company, while always looking for new opportunities to strengthen and build relationships;
  • Actively engages in planning and forecasting with department management;
  • Participates in the bidding of work along with other key department and regional employees; ensures that data provided to the bid team is accurate and viable given their knowledge of the customer and the regional work area;
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of the projects’ scope, pricing, and both internal standards and customer standards for quality and safety so that s/he can make appropriate decisions about any issues that come up on a project. The Regional Manager is also required to have a good working knowledge of the contracts for projects in their region;
  • Monitors project performance and progress closely to ensure that targets and deadlines are consistently met, both for the company and the customer. Reports on project status regularly to department management. Ensures that all mobilization and demobilization is performed efficiently, and that projects are implemented as planned. Actively engages in problem solving with the project management teams to ensure that issues are resolved appropriately and quickly;
  • Is responsible for delivery on key performance indicators (KPIs) for all assigned regional operations, including KPIs on individuals, projects or groups;
  • Supports, communicates and encourages all corporate initiatives as directed, including implementation of policies and procedures, as well as encompassing positive corporate culture and leadership. Ensures that all communications are handled positively and professionally, whether with customers, employees, vendors etc.;
  • Provides leadership to the Atlantic operations team, including coaching and guidance to managers and supervisors. Conducts annual performance reviews with all direct reports, and ensures all managers provide sufficient feedback and guidance to all staff via the performance management processes;
  • Adheres to financial budgets as dictated corporately, and actively seeks to meet or exceed business development targets as issued by the department in order to meet overall corporate goals;
  • Continuously and consistently pushes to ensure a strong culture of safety in the workplace and leads by example in order to engage employees under their direction. Monitors safety compliance both from a company and customer perspective;
  • Provides coaching and guidance to all regional employees as needed, including performance management of direct reports. Applies disciplinary procedures as needed and participates in investigations for the region, including both HR and Safety investigations.

Experience Required: 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role, some experience at a senior level preferred;
  • 3+ years of experience at the managerial level in Outside Plant Construction, with specific knowledge of fibre optics and FTTx;
  • Engaging leadership style that builds and sustains credibility and delivers results;
  • Proven track record of delivering results while effectively leading the region and overcoming obstacles;
  • Experienced in operating at both a strategic/conceptual level, as well as a detail/operational level;
  • Experienced in a hands-on, action-oriented approach to management that fits well within the entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with an extraordinary ability to build and maintain business relationships; ability to influence others positively and lead by example;
  • Proven, effective decision-making and problem-solving experience;  
  • Ability to effectively analyze and interpret data and prepare required reporting and financial analysis, including delivery of presentations;
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
Additional Requirements: 
  • Valid driver’s license and reasonable driver abstract; must meet insurance carrier requirements;
  • Willingness to travel throughout the region as required; occasional travel outside of territory may be required;
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check.
