Technical Designer

Ottawa or Toronto, ON

VistaCare Communications is a leading technology solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Designer to join our MDU / FTTH operations in a permanent, full-time position. This position could be based out of Ottawa or Toronto, but travel will be required throughout Ontario.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Design an Outside and Inside wiring plan to deliver fibre-based systems to customers. This includes developing material lists, pricing and labour to complete the job
  • Visits worksites to take photos
  • Type up documents based on site visit and photos
  • Upload all documents onto a shared drive in order to give managers access  
  • Requisition and ordering of materials and supplies
  • Ensure standards for safe working conditions
  • Completes jobsite inspections
  • Scoping the work to look for safety concerns making necessary fixes to engineering and/or applying for appropriate change requests as needed
  • Build and manage customer relationships with building owners
Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Excellent computer skills, focus on Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with Visio considered an asset
  • Knowledge of structured cabling and fibre optics/OSP builds
  • Understanding and knowledge of local building codes
  • Ability to understand network drawings and fibre counts
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate with off-site internal agents  
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and can take directions
  • Ability to work alone in a fast-paced environment
Experience Required: 
  • 1+ years of directly relatable experience
  • 2+ years of experience in structured cabling and fibre optics
Additional Requirements: 
  • Valid driver’s license and reasonable driver abstract
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
  • Ability to travel throughout British Columbia will be required
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
