Technical Designer (FTTH / MDU)

VistaCare Communications is a leading technology solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Designer to join our MDU / FTTH operations in a permanent, full-time position based out of Ontario. We currently have 2 positions available – one is based in Ottawa, ON and one in Windsor, ON.  Travel will be required throughout Ontario for both positions.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Design an Outside and Inside wiring plan to deliver fibre-based systems to customers. This includes developing material lists, pricing and labour to complete the job;
  • Obtain Access Agreements by building and managing customer relationships with building owners;
  • Complete site walk throughs;
  • Complete ISW design;
  • Complete Entrance cable design;
  • Complete Material BOM;
  • Compile  data in a Technical Design package;
  • Visit worksites to take photos;
  • Requisition and ordering of materials and supplies;
  • Ensure standards for safe working conditions;
  • Complete jobsite inspections as required;
  • Scoping the work to look for safety concerns making necessary fixes to engineering and/or applying for appropriate change requests as needed.
Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Excellent computer skills and   Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.);
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of structured cabling and fibre optics/OSP builds;
  • Understanding and knowledge of local building codes;
  • Ability to understand network drawings and fibre counts;
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge and experience with Visio considered an asset;
  • Ability to coordinate with off-site internal agents;  
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and also able to take direction;
  • Ability to work alone in a fast-paced environment.
Experience Required: 
  • 1+ years of direct experience;
  • 2+ years of experience in structured cabling and fibre optics;
  • Customer management experience;
  • Detailed experience using Microsoft Applications.
Additional Requirements: 
  • Valid driver’s license and reasonable driver abstract;
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required;
  • Ability to travel throughout Ontario will be required;
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check.
